COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduction to the Humanities acquaints you with various kinds and works of arts and thought, with analytical,
critical and imaginative tools for thinking about them, and with ways to appreciate the ideas these expressions inspire. This course will help you to see social and philosophical statements within the arts and ways of life, and to articulate how these insights could apply to our own lives.
To be gained: academic knowledge, transfer credit,
opportunities for personal growth and advancement. The class will also provide a context for reflecting on and communicating about cultural values and how to develop your own aesthetic. Includes cultural event experiences. Guidelines provided.
We will discuss examples of arts and ideas, and ways to understand and interpret them. We will look into stories, symbols, images, themes, and patterns to help us gain an informed appreciation of creativity, hidden meanings, and how arts and ideas can enrich experience. We will see how observation, knowledge, and application of critical and creative thinking skills, can increase our ability to appreciate life, its mysteries, and possibilities.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will earn credit toward MJC Associate Degree and Humanities Area of Emphasis transfer credit to a four-year college or university.
