The Modesto Junior College Child Development Center provides high quality child care that is developmentally and age appropriate. The classroom settings promote the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative development of each child with a loving and safe environment.
The classrooms implement child-centered, anti-bias curriculums that allow children opportunities to freely choose from a wide variety of activities. These activities reflect children’s interests and needs based on information gathered during parent conferences, observations and assessments. There is a balance between child-initiated and teacher-directed activities in both large and small groups. When activities are age and developmentally appropriate, children are encouraged to solve problems, ask questions, find answers, explore interesting materials, and expand their curiosity. The development of social skills and self-esteem is a priority and staff works in partnership with each family to develop their child’s social competence.
Modesto Junior College Child Development Center classrooms also serve as lab practicums where MJC students are trained to be teachers and supervised by MJC Child Development Faculty. The Infant/Toddler staff uses the WestEd, “Program for Infant and Toddler Care Giving” (PITC) training program.
MJC Center staff encourages children to take pride in their own family’s culture, to respect differences in others and to appreciate the rich diversity in our programs and the wider world.
In addition
to our core staff, we also provide an environment that encourages the
participation of parents, Lab Practicum, Internship and Work Study students.
Each classroom implements an anti-bias curriculum that will focus on positive relationships between the child and adult, provide sensory-based, and developmentally age-appropriate activities. To ensure high quality, we use the Creative Curriculum and the Desired Results Development Profile for assessment.
Modesto Junior College Child Development Center does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, gender, age, religion, or handicap in determining the families it serves. Religious instruction is not practiced in our programs.
