Leaps and Bounds is an outpatient behavior health program focused on serving infants, toddlers and preschool children, ages 0 through 5 years and their families.  Consultation services are provided at pre-schools and family day care settings.

The model for the Leaps and Bounds program is relationships based.  Focusing on the relationship between parent/guardian and their child has proven to have long-term positive outcomes, not only for the children but for the parents as well.  Parents/guardians know their child;  therefore the focus is on enhancing their strengths as well as assisting in meeting challenges faced by parents of children 0 - 5 years.  This type of mental health service coupled with the key values of the Children's System of Care - strength-based, family focused, outcome driven and parent/child centered - forms the core of the program.

The childcare consultation program works with the Modesto Junior College Child Development Center and parents.  The goal is to have children and families ready for kindergarten by finding useful solutions to concerns and questions regarding children's social skills and behaviors.  The Stanislaus County Children's & Families Commission funds this portion of the program.

The program's staff consists of clinicians, case managers, parent mentors, psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse and clerical support as well as contracts with local medical providers.  We collaborate with Health Services Agency, local pediatricians, Valley Mountain Regional Center, Early Start and alcohol and drug treatment programs.

Program Service Goals:  to reduce the risk of emotional, behavioral and developmental problems for children by

bullet Establishing trusting and collaborative relations with the parents/guardians.  Have parents/guardians teach us so we can better serve other families.
bullet Helping parents/guardians develop strong relationships with their young children.
bullet Strengthening parents'/guardians' confidence as parents to a young child.
bullet Education about the development of young children (infant, toddlers and preschool age).
bullet Helping siblings adjust to and get along with younger siblings.
bullet Identify other community resources and services that might be helpful to child or family.
