ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY: ASSIGNMENTS
Each assignment should be typed, single-spaced, using an essay format. Papers should be 1-2 pages in length. If referring to statistics or quotes, the author and page should be cited (Stanley, page 12). Text title should be underlined or bolded. Reference to ideas or processes learned through class and Stutz/Warf to support your ideas will add depth to your essay and improve your score.
Assignment #1; Due Jan 27
After reading chapters 1-3 in Millionaire Mind by Stanley, describe the
focus of this book. Who are the Millionaires in America? Where do they live?
What values do they hold in common? Does what you have read correspond to what
you thought about the wealthy in America prior to this class? Explain the
strategies identified by Stanley which Millionaires used to obtain wealth in
America. How can you apply these strategies to your life?
Assignment #2: Due February 24
After reading chapters 4-6 in the Millionaire Mind by Stanley, answer the following question.
Stanley argues that the acquisition of wealth requires courage, a specific type of vocation, and one’s choice in a spouse. Explain Stanley’s ideas on these three areas, and identify how these choices would look if applied in your own life. Do you feel that Stanley is correct? Give evidence to validate your experience. Have you been taught these ideas through your family or education?
Assignment #3: Due March 25
After completing the book, the Millionaire Mind, ch 1-10, describe the following.
Do Americans understand the true path to wealth, or do they have an imagined lifestyle of millionaires created through media? Describe and demonstrate the behavior and household choices found among American millionaires. How has this book affected your view of the wealthy in America? What have you learned about acquiring economic stability?
