C. ESSAY (70 pts) Select one of the following questions and complete as a full essay.  Be sure to include reference to maps in the text explaining how they demonstrate geographical patterns and relationships addressed in your question. See syllabus and course format pages for greater clarity.

1) Compare and contrast 1st and 3rd world societies based upon demographic indicators.  Describe and demonstrate the dominant differences in population growth, life expectancy, resource use, and migration among these societies.  Be sure to use maps that demonstrate the cause and effect relationships for each indicator and any interrelationships which may exist. Should 1st world societies attempt to improve the quality of life in poor societies? How?

2) How can geography be utilized in marketing and advertising industries?  Describe and demonstrate the most significant markets which exist globally.  Be sure to address and locate markets based upon age, gender, density and income.  How will time affect the location of these markets?  How may this progression affect what products are produced?

3)  Describe and demonstrate global locations of industrial resources; oil, coal and iron ore.  What determinants account for locations of resource production?  Do global consumption patterns mirror global production locations? Why or why  not?  Would raising the value of industrial resources lead to a more equal distribution of wealth?
