Lab Regulations:
1. Students are REQUIRED to wear
safety goggles at all times in the laboratory.
The material fee covers the cost of these goggles. Students should also wear closed-toe shoes
and clothing covering at least shoulders to knees. Aprons or lab coats are recommended;
expensive clothes are not.
2. If you drop the course you must
check out of lab. A fee may be charged
for failure to check out. If you decide
to drop, you must submit a Drop Form to the admissions office. If you do not officially drop, you may
receive an F in the class.
3. I plan to drop the lowest lab
grade. If you miss a lab this will be
the dropped grade. A zero given for
copying, or letting someone copy your work will not be dropped.
4. Pre-laboratory problems are due
before lab starts. Lab reports are due
at the end of the lab period before you leave.
If an experiment runs long I may specify when the report is due. My initials are required on your lab work
before you leave in this event.
5. All questions should be answered
in the pre-laboratory problems and in the lab report. Any unanswered questions will result in a 20% reduction in the
lab experiment (usually this means 2 points lost out of 10). Any questions requiring a written answer
should be answered in complete sentences.
Neatness, grammar, and spelling count in all of your work.
6. If you are absent from lab,
please let me know via email or phone call.
If you miss one lab, that grade will be dropped. If you miss more than 1 lab, you must
complete a makeup lab within 2 weeks of the scheduled lab or you will receive a
zero for the missed work. Lab makeup
must be done during one of the scheduled 101 labs taught by Dr. Daniel.
7. Any student missing 3 or more
laboratories may be dropped from this course; however it is NOT the
responsibility of the instructor to drop missing students. See item 2 above.
8. No unauthorized experiments will
be performed. All safety rules will be followed
at all times in the laboratory. Any
inappropriate behavior may result in the student being expelled from lab, with
a zero for that experiment, up to the students being dropped from the course.
9. You need to supply paper towels,
matches, and liquid detergent. These
materials should be left in your drawer.
