What chemistry course should I take at MJC?

These questions are designed to help you determine which chemistry course is correct for you.  Courses are listed from least difficult to most difficult.

IF YOU:

THEN TAKE:

Need 3 units of natural science credit and don’t need a lab

Chem 150

Are going into the MJC or CSUS nursing program

Chem 143 and 144 are the courses best suited for pre-nursing students. (Note, courses such as Microbiology 101 and Physiology 101 do not require 144)

If you have already taken Chem 142 or Chem 101, see instructor

Need a science course to meet general education requirements.

Chem 142, 143, OR Chem 101

Have weak or no chemistry background and 
need to take Chem 101

Chem 142 (preferred) or Chem 143 first  

Are a science/medicine/engineering major and need General Chemistry for transfer to a CSU or UC

Chem 101 and possibility 102/103 
(check with university)

Need to take 2 Semesters of General Chemistry

 Chem 101 first, then Chem 102 or 103 (103 is 102's lecture without 102's lab)

need organic chemistry for transfer to CSU/ UC.  Pre-pharmacy, pre-med, biology, chemistry and chemical engineering majors.

Chem 112, then 113
first take Chem 101 then 102
