Case Study Design Projects

Student field trip to the Colonial Renovation

It is critical that students be involved in actual interior design projects in order to understand the complexities of the profession, including both the business practices and procedures, the application of the "design process" including the creation of the creative solution which meets the needs of the client and stands the test of time. Students experience these case study projects through site visits, discussions with sub-contractors, PowerPoint presentations, project documents and samples of the specified materials and resources.

Design Problem: To remodel an existing bathroom which also serves the pool. To also provide increased interior accessibility to those with physical limitations, especially for bathing. The renovation is to be limited to existing walls and exterior access while increasing visual spaciousness and physical warmth. Solution involved the installation of warm floors, a comfort  height toilet, and a roll-in shower with accessible amenities.

Bath Expansion

Design Problem: To create a bedroom suite by converting a adjacent half-bath to a full bath. While adding a shower, adequate floor space of the bedroom is to be maintained, allowing room for a queen bed, computer desk and reading area. Photos to come
