Black Chasm Cave is a privately owned cave system near Volcano, California in the Sierra Nevada foothills (official web site at http://www.caverntours.com/BlackRt.htm ). It is a spectacularly decorated cave with some of the best helictites to be found anywhere. It has only been open a few years, and because the undeveloped cave had very difficult access, very little vandalism had occurred. The short tour travels through several rooms, and 90 feet over a subterranean lake. Plans are in place to expand and lengthen the tours.
