The foundation of this house sits directly on the trace of the Calaveras Fault, which can be seen as the prominent crack in the street at the base of the photograph. Differential warping of the foundation is causing the house to tilt. Movement on the Calaveras Fault is right lateral, so that the right side of the house is moving towards the photographer's position, while the left side is moving away. Notice the overlapping (and progressively more recent) repairs to the asphalt in the street.
