To
download the cookbook/recipe file:
-
With
your mouse, right click on the file you wish to download. For the
initial cookbook it is the colored hyperlink above. For recipe
updates, you'll find them on their own page titled "Recipe Updates".
-
A dialog
box will appear. Choose (left click with the mouse) the option "Save
Target As..."
-
Another
dialog box will appear. In the "Save In:" drop down box, choose
a directory/folder you will be able to find easily. Generally, the "Desktop"
is the default choice. If not, you can left click the downward
pointing triangle and towards the top of your choices is the "Desktop".
This is generally a good temporary location for storing a file
you wish to locate quickly. At the end of the process, you can delete
or move the file to a permanent location of your choice. The default
file name should be correct, just left mouse click the "Save"
button. If you should have a file with the same name in the same
location, then change the file name to something different; such as
adding a number or letter to the beginning or end of the file name,
then click "Save". When the file has completed the downloading,
click the "Close" button to close the dialog box. You now have
a copy of the cookbook on your computer waiting to be loaded.
When you are ready to load the cookbook file into Mastercook proceed
with the next set of steps. If you are going to do the loading of the
file immediately, minimize or close the website. For those familiar
with working in Windows, you want to drag and drop the cookbook file
directly into the sub-directory "My Collection" of Mastercook.
Then just double click the file in "My Collection" to open the
cookbook and load it into the collection. The following direction
explain those steps for beginners. Note some version of Mastercook
allows you to just double click the file on your desktop and it loads
the file properly. Some version don't keep the linked files with this
method. You can try to double click the cookbook, and if the recipes
lose their linked properties, just open Mastercook and delete the
cookbook and then drag and drop into the sub-directory to correct the
problem.
To load the cookbook file into Mastercook:
-
Working
from your computer's desktop, left click (or you may have to quickly
double left click) on "My Computer" and then left click on "Local
Disk (C:)". Next scroll down to the directory/folder where
you installed Mastercook. This might be in the "Program Files"
or in it's own directory under "Mastercook" or "Sierra".
Left click and open that directory.
-
The
directory options for Mastercook should be "Deluxe Collection",
"Mc Tools", "My Collection", and "Program". Left
click to choose the directory "My Collection". You should have
multiple cookbooks, menus, and shopping lists in this directory.
-
On the
top blue colored bar of the program window, in the upper left corner
should read "My Collection" and in the upper right corner
should be three (3) square boxes. The left box has a small dash to
minimize the program, the right box has an "X" and is for closing the
program. The center box has either a single square (to maximize the
window) or a double square (to downsize the window). You want the
window to be resizable to a smaller size; click the center box if
necessary to get the single square.
-
Now as
you roll your mouse across the edge of the window of the program, you
will get a double sided arrow. When that appears, left click and hold
your mouse button down and drag the edge of the program's window to
make it small enough to read enough of the contents on your desktop to
see the Mastercook cookbook file.
-
Locate
the Mastercook cookbook file on your desktop. Now left click and hold
your mouse button down on the cookbook file you want to drop into
Mastercook, drag and drop it into the window "My Collection",
and release the mouse button. The file should be copied into that
directory.
-
Now left
click on the file in "My Collection" to open it up in
Mastercook.
Note: By
dragging and dropping the cookbook file into Mastercook directory, all
linked recipes will remain linked, and you won't get duplicate recipes. If
you "Import" the recipes into Mastercook, the recipes within a
recipe will not be linked and every linked recipe will be duplicated in
the cookbook. There may be as many as 100 to 150 linked recipes in our
cook book.
