"Media Systems " deals with introducing various formats of video tape recorders, television cameras/camcorders, color television receiver/monitors, sound systems, audio visual projection systems, computers and how they interface and relate to  MJC's media operations. Labwork can be very exciting as it introduces you to actual on the job training under diverse working conditions with the pressures of deadlines. You will be relating with people and machines while maintaining accuracy and efficiency on the worksite.

Textbook: There is no text required for class at this time. You are requested only to take notes during lectures.

Tests: A midterm project and final exam will be taken from lecture notes and will be reviewed prior to quiz time.

Lab Work for evaluation: You will be assigned to arrange a minimum of 3 hours a week during actual working conditions at MJC Media Services. A total of 55 hours need to be completed. Duties can be wide ranging depending on your schedule of available hours submitted for approval. You will have six prepared lab assignments for skill assessment to complete.

Up to 40 points of credit can be obtained from assessment of your and performance and A t t i t u d e by the instructor and the three Operations Supervisors. Each person will submit their 1-10 point score based on your ability to work as a team member to get projects completed according to the scheduled time, while utilizing proper published procedures. The mastery to follow written and oral commands; Maintain the proper skills for accuracy, professionalism, and efficiency of carrying out the job assignment; Also your ability to communicate operational discrepancies by filling out D.R.'s or using voice mail/e-mail technologies.

Grading:

A    =    300 Points. or above

B    =    250 - 299 Points

C    =    225 - 249 Points

D    =    200 - 224 Points

F    =    199 or below

In doing this I am now familiar with:

Programming S-VHS VCR's

Telephone Voice Mail

 

I______________________________have demonstrated the following voice mail skills to my supervisor.

 

1.  Log onto the voice mail system from the Tech Room phone and initiate a message to my voice mailbox 8039.

 

2.  Send a voice mail message to 8039,  your favorite supervisors voice mail,  and to another classmate (Tech room 6098) at the same time.  Explain in your message that this is what you are doing.

 

3.  What are the differences in retrieving tech room phone messages in the tech room, from another phone on campus ? or from your home phone?  Now try it...

 

4.  Listen to your message on the tech room phone and save it.  What button did you push to save?

 

5.  Which buttons did you hit to skip through all the other messages to get to yours without having to listen

      to the unwanted messages?

 

6.  Send me a voice mail message and attach another class members message to it.  Use your home phone     or other off campus phone to accomplish this. How did you accomplish this?

 

7.  Send a message to my mailbox (8039) and make it both urgent and confidential.  How did you do that?

 

8.  How do you move forward 5 seconds in a message you are playing back? 

 

9.  How do you move back 10 seconds? 

 

10.  How do you pause the message for 2 minutes while you are doing an access or playback  in the tech  room.

 

11. What happens if you come back in 1 minute and you want to continue listening to your message?

 

 

12.  Send me a message with a receipt.  How did you do that?  What time did I listen to your message?

 

 

13. When you have successfully completed this assignment, delete your messages from the tech room  phone.

 

14.  Reply to a message I have sent to the tech room phone.  How did you accomplish that?

 

15.  Send a voice mail message to a part time instructor you know and to me at the same time (preferably from your home or off campus phone). Explain to me in your message who you are contacting, and to them that this is part of your voice mail training.  What  is the difference between sending  voice mail to a part time instructor as opposed to sending me a voice mail message? 

 

16. You need to have a Voice Mail Guide to do this assignment.  It will be difficult to complete this assignment without todays class session or meeting with a supervisor or student who is familiar with the Voice Mail system..  When you are done with this assignment e-mail this form back to me with your answers.

Design a PowerPoint PSA slide for use on Cable 27.

1.  The slide needs to have a colored background appropriate to the colored text.
