Leadership Skills in a Small Group
Presenters: Kim, Tom, Brandon, and Jamie

  I.  Introduction

        A.  Attention Getter: We will start off by reading a poem by an unknown author entitled, "The Fire Within".

        B.  Thesis: The Lakota Sioux Medicine Wheel reveals practical skills for dealing with organizational team members.

      C.  Preview Statement: Understanding the leadership skills of the buffalo, eagle, mouse, and bear can enhance a small group's productivity.

(You may have up to five main points in a presentation.  Therefore, your preview statement will reflect the organizational structure of your body).

 

 II.  Body

        A.  First main point: The buffalo's leadership strength focuses on completing the group's task.

        B.  Second main point: The eagle's leadership strength focuses on contributing ideas to the group

        C.  Third main point: The mouse's leadership strength focuses on maintaining harmony in the group.

        D.  Fourth main point: The bear's leadership strength focuses the group on producing a quality final product.

 

III.  Conclusion

        A.  Summary: The leadership strengths of the buffalo, eagle, mouse, an bear contribute to the productivity of their small group.

        B.  Tie in: We will make an analogy about group work with regards to the poem we performed at the beginning.

 

 IV.  Audience Involvement
        After we introduce each of the animals and their strengths, we will ask class members to group themselves with like individuals.  We will then give them a task to complete together.  After the task is completed, we will comment on the similarities that each group demonstrated with regards to our earlier discussion.  We also will get groups to interact with one another to exemplify these differences.  Our final activity will be to teach people how to work with each other's differences.
