The Writing Center provides help for all MJC students who come to Founders Hall 224. Tutors are available to give feedback on writing or to answer questions. They will not edit your work but will help you learn to recognize your errors and to become a better writer. Additionally, there are dictionaries, handbooks, and other resources Students may register for ENGL25A Workshop in English Skills (1/2 unit) or ENGL25B (1 unit) to earn credit for the independent study they do through the Writing Center. Because the Writing Center is such a busy place, students who drop in for help may be asked to schedule an appointment and return at a later time. So, if you wait until the hour before your paper is due, you probably will be unable to get the help you want.
The Writing Center is open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.. Evening hours are 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Call 575-6682 for more information.
For more detailed information about the mission and function of the Writing Center, please visit its home page, authored by one of its tutors.

Founders Hall 105 is primarily for the use of students enrolled in English 44. Computers in Founders Hall 105 have grammar tutorial software; students in other English classes might be assigned to the lab for extra practice in grammar and usage. Founders Hall 273 is the Computer-Assisted Writing (CAW) Lab, primarily intended for the use of English classes. The CAW lab has limited "open lab" hours for students working on papers for their classes. Please check the schedule posted on the door for current open lab hours.
Policies and procedures governing the use of the computer labs are posted and available in each lab. Students not adhering to these policies will be asked to leave the computer lab.
