We are also open on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6:15pm-8:15pm. Sorry, but you cannot get credit toward English 25A or English 25B for coming in during evening hours.
We offer two classes for units, English 25A and English 25B. Both classes are designed to help you improve your writing skills by using your own writing as your text.Bring your writing-related tasks to the Writing Center, get assistance and feedback from tutors, and earn credit/units. English 25A is worth .5 units and requires 27 hours in the Writing Center during the semester. That's only an hour and a half a week! English 25B is worth 1 unit and requires 51 hours in the Writing Center during the semester. That's only 3 hours a week!
Our purpose is to be a place where students can come to improve their writing and critical thinking skills. Students who come to the Writing Center can expect help with individual papers and learn about the writing process. It is our hope that students will become independent writers who see that writing means communicating ideas effectively. In the Writing Center, we believe there is a writer in everyone. Our tutors work with students on any writing-related task whether it is for an English class, a history class, psychology class or whatever. Students don't have to be enrolled in an English class to use the Writing Center, but they should be eligible for ESL 40, or English 49 or above in order to get help here.
Tutors work with students in all stages of the writing process:
| understanding the assignment | |
| discussing topics to write about and organizing ideas on a bubble sheet | |
| focusing on and developing the topic | |
| reading for logic and coherence | |
| checking mechanics and grammar |
