Test 3 study guide

Using Chapters 5 and 6 explain the differences in the lives of White Northern women, White Southern women and slave women in Antebellum America.  Give specific examples and/or quotes from the book to back your answers.

 

 

Using Chapters 8 and 9, explain the way pioneer women in the West and working class, urban women challenged and changed acceptable female spheres and gender roles from the years 1870-1930’s. Give specific examples and/or quotes from the book to back your answers.

 

Using Chapters 10 and 11, explain the “New Woman” and give examples of her work.  What were the political, social and personal outcomes of her activism?  Be sure to include minority women in your response. Give specific examples and/or quotes from the book to back your answers.

 

Using Chapters 13, 14, and 15 explain women’s assertive roles in WWII and then more traditional, passive roles in 1950’s.  Why did women assume these roles?  How did these circumstances lead to a reemergence of the women’s movement in the 1960’s and 1970’s and which women influenced it the most?  Give specific examples and/or quotes from the book to back your answers.

 

Using Chapters 1, 15 and 16 explain how women’s worlds have changed since the 2nd wave of women’s rights movement?  How have they stayed the same?  What are some future prospects and problems women face in the new Millennium? Give specific examples and/or quotes from the book to back your answers.
