| Phylum :
Annelida (an-el'-i-duh): segmented worms or annelids. The
body shows segmentation (metamerism), the repetition of
functional body parts. Each metamere contains its own
muscles, setae, nerve ganglion, blood vessels, kidney,
and hydrostatic skeleton. Metamerism allows efficient,
rapid burrowing. This phylum includes classes for
earthworms and leeches. There is one class containing
many marine species. Parapodium of an annelid worm. Photo of a Sabellid Tube Worm. Photo of a Serpulid Tube worm. |
