Phylum: Arthropoda: (Arth-ro'-po-duh): have a chitinous exoskeleton and jointed appendages. Growth occurs by molting. Body shows metamerism (segmentation) with metameres (segments) grouped into functional body groups. Most have compound eyes. This phylum includes the insects and arachnids. There is one class that contains many marine species, which is Class Crustacea.
