Phylum: Mollusca: (ma-lus'-kuh): A large and important group including snails, chitons, clams, squid and octopi. Typically molluscs have a shell. The major body regions include a head, foot, visceral mass and mantle (a flap of tissue which secretes the shell and often encloses the gills in a mantle cavity).
