| The Fire Academy is an intensive 12 week program (480 hours) that provides basic firefighter knowledge and skills, with an emphasis on the "hands on" approach to skills development. The course conforms to the standards for certification by the State Board Fire Services and the Office of State Fire Training. This is a 15 unit course applicable towards a Certificate and/or an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Science. Successful completion of the Fire Academy and prerequisites fulfills the educational requirements for Firefighter I, ICS 200 and Hazmat Operations. Safety and protection of the firefighter are continuously emphasized. There are weekly written examinations, mid-term and final written exam given during the course. Students must pall all written tests with a 70% and complete and demonstrate the ability to proficiently perform practical skill to graduate. |
